Self-Identified “Christian” Adults
Not surprisingly, individuals who call themselves Christian are the largest of the various “Christian”
segments evaluated and also include the broadest spectrum of theological points of view. In total,
currently about seven out of every 10 adults (69%) adopt the label “Christian” to identify their faith.
A large share of this population embraces various biblical principles and truths. For instance:
• 79% believe that God has a reason for everything
• 77% say they have a unique, God-given calling
• 74% say they intentionally try to avoid sinning because they know it hurts God
• 72% claim that every moral choice either honors of dishonors God
• 62% agree that the universe was designed and created, and is sustained by God
• 61% believe that God is the all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect and just Creator of the universe
who still rules the universe today
But this large group entertains a wide range of perspectives that are not in harmony with biblical
teachings. Among the errant perspectives most widely embraced are:
• 72% argue that people are basically good
• 71% consider feelings, experience, or the input of friends and family as their most trusted
sources of moral guidance
• 66% say that having faith matters more than which faith you pursue
• 64% say that all religious faiths are of equal value
• 58% believe that if a person is good enough, or does enough good things, they can earn their
way into Heaven
• 58% contend that the Holy Spirit is not a real, living being but is merely a symbol of God’s power,
presence, or purity
• 57% believe in karma
• 52% claim that determining moral truth is up to each individual; there are no moral absolutes
that apply to everyone, all the time
Self-identified Christians are also likely to reject a number of biblical teachings and principles. For
example, slightly less than half (46%) believe that the marriage of one man to one woman is God’s plan
for humanity, across all cultures; just 40% believe that when they die they will go to Heaven, but only
because they have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior; only one-third (34%)
believes that people are born into sin and can only be saved of the consequences by Jesus Christ; just
one-third (32%) believes premarital sex is morally unacceptable; and about one out of every four (28%)
believes that the best indicator of a successful life is consistent obedience to God.

Overall, only 9% of self-identified Christians have a biblical worldview.
The narrative driving the faith of the self-identified Christian population, then, is not consistently in
tune with biblical perspectives. It might best be described as acknowledging that God is real, powerful,
and caring, and is worthy of worship and consideration. He is open-minded and tolerant. Our moral
choices are important but primarily because of their effect on other people. Those choices are best
influenced by human experience and personal expectations. If we invest in being happy, God will bless
those efforts. Toward that end, the best advice we can live by is the wisdom developed and shared by
other people.
Self-Identified Born-Again Christians
Many polling organizations shortcut the spiritual classification process by simply asking people if
they embrace a particular religious label. One common measure along those lines is to ask people
if they consider themselves to be born-again Christians. The typical range of people who fit this selfclassification is 30% to 40%. The Cultural Research Center norm for this measure is currently 35%. Note
that this represents about half of the people who call themselves Christian.
How does this tighter definition of being a Christian differ theologically from the broader measure? A
majority of self-identified born-again Christians believes many principles taught in the Bible, including
the following:
• 78% believe that the marriage of one man to one woman is God’s plan for humanity, across all
cultures
• 72% believe that God is the all-knowing, all-powerful and just Creator of the universe who still
rules the universe today
• 60% believe that the Bible is the accurate and reliable words of God
But there are numerous outlooks this group accepts that conflict with biblical teachings:
• 77% say that having faith matters more than which faith you pursue
• 69% accepted feelings, experience, and the input of friends and family as their most trusted
sources of moral guidance
• 65% say there is no absolute moral truth
• 62% contend that the Holy Spirit is not a real, living being but is merely a symbol of God’s power,

• 61% say that all religious faiths are of equal value
• 60% believe that if a person is good enough, or does enough good things, they can earn their
way into Heaven
Interestingly, just 44% believe that when they die they will go to Heaven, but only because they have
confessed their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. In other words, nearly six out of 10
people who claim to be born-again do not meet the widely accepted, biblical definition of born-again.
Overall, this segment is comprised of people who are somewhat more likely than those in the broader,
self-identified “Christian” category to possess biblical perspectives. However, people in this segment
are also likely to possess a large number of unbiblical beliefs.
The grand faith narrative that characterizes self-described born-again Christians seems to be that God
is real and powerful, as well as broad-minded, forgiving, and tolerant. They believe in the reality of
sin but also contend that they can either earn their salvation or receive it through a relationship with
Christ. In their view, moral choices matter, but we are inevitably captives of karma. They consider the
Bible to be a critical guide to life but not to contain absolute moral or comprehensive and indisputable
spiritual truth, so their best sources of guidance are feelings, experience, and interpersonal advice.

If Christians have the basics wrong how can salt that has lost its flavor effect the culture? For many years I have been addressing “secular radio” audiences and that has been good. But God has really spoken to mwe since the accident that it is His bride that has married itself to a liar. I saw in a vision and in the story the Lord showed me wjhile lying in ICU on life support for six weeks what Paul warned about in Acts chapter 20 before heading to Rome for his final appeal.

ACTS 20

17From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24[c]But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my [d]race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

25“And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent[e] of the blood of all men. 27For I have not [f]shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church [g]of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking [h]perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

32“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. 34[i]Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. 35I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

36And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37Then they all wept [j]freely, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him, 38sorrowing most of all for the words which he spoke, that they would see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.

Paul spoke then and we continue to see it now. Post modernism is a dominant worldview. I believe that it is rampant because the church has lost its flavor and instead tried to “fit in”. Some of the most common postmodern ideas that are widely accepted by adults in the United
States include:
• 39% claim that human life has no intrinsic value
• 29% express their commitment to getting even with those who wrong them
• 29% believe there is no way of knowing whether God or a supernatural being exists
• 28% indicate that they treat people based on their current feelings and circumstances
• 24% believe that historical narratives are unreliable because they are subjective human
perspectives

Jesus Christ pronounced that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand! Repent! He did not say He was bringing it at a later date but that it is here now. The church behaves like we are waiting for it to arrive. Yet Christ pronounced it is here. Then He went about acting like it had arrived and told His followers to act like it as well. Then He made the way for us to act like it.

Truly eye opening. This is also spoken of by Jesus in His instruction to Nicodemus. A man must be born again. But is born again this means that one must first die. Our old nature is sin. As such it must die that the new man may live.

John 3: 1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Thus Jesus conversation with Nicodemus and the good news. Sin, the body of death, which the law has fully exposed as evil, must be put to death in our mortal bodies, that sin disease that we all have within us must be cured. Paul writes “Thanks be to God through our Lord Jesus Christ”
And Faith is the power by which we believe and greater faith becomes our portion at conversion.

He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

Yes it means that we are no longer under the law for the law has been written upon our hearts and the old man, sin has died. We are truly free.

15Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. 16Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 17And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. 18For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

19Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. 20Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. 21Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. 22But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus29And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

 

Yes we are under the covenant of Abraham the covenant of faith. The law is written on our hearts by Jesus Christ living in us. In the beginning was the Word and Word was with God and the Word was God.

 

 

2 Corinthians 3:1Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? 2Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 3Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

12Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. 16Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

John 15: 1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4Abide in me, and I in you. How do we overcome?

Galatians 2:16Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified17But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. 18For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. 20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Hebrews 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 

Thus at our conversion our old man is crucified with Christ, we are born again, out of the corruptible and into the incorruptible. The faith of the Son of God is instilled in us and the Holy Spirit who we ask to come into us. For Jesus prayed in John 17 that we would receive His Glory as the Father had given Him Glory.

Ephesians 3:14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

In addition to our important work in America we are also doing an important work in India. We have planted over 450 churches since we began working together over there. We have put in 26 bore wells. We have started and graduated a sewing class for widows whose husbands were murdered because of their faith in Jesus Christ leaving behind children and a wife. We have another class we need to provide sewing machines. Fourteen graduates each need a sewing machine. We also take care of 10 orphans and eighteen bible students. In order to have favor with the local leaders we provide food at our outreach meetings. Where we are in the State of Punjab they have no government program for the lower caste or the Christians so w2ithout our assistance they will slowly die. Each meeting costs approximately $500 to buy the necessary groceries. The grocer there gives us a discount, the company wee use to drill the wells gives us a discount, the local officials have paid for parts of the wells we have put in.
